With Halloween just around the corner, National Pumpkin Day is the perfect time to start your celebrations.

What is National Pumpkin Day?

Every year on the 26th October, we celebrate National Pumpkin Day. Pumpkins are famously associated within Halloween tradition; used to carve your own Jack O’ Lanterns and adding a spooky effect to your decorations.

This is the perfect day to get pumpkin creative!

How You Can Celebrate

There are many ways you can celebrate National Pumpkin Day; why not:

  • Stock up on pumpkins in time for Halloween
  • Carve your pumpkin creations
  • Decorate your Jack O’ Lanterns
  • Cook some pumpkin treats
  • Go pumpkin picking

Our Pumpkin Creations

We had so much fun making our Pumpkin Day creations. Take a look at what we created using our Prism Glimmer Mists and Moonstone Dies.

Prism Glimmer Pumpkin Monsters

How to Make:

  1. There are lots of smaller varieties of pumpkins and squash around in your local supermarkets. We particularly liked the gnarly one that looks like he's wearing a hat! They also come in a huge variety of colours and textures so you can play around with different effects and base colours.
  2. Lay down paper on your table to protect it from the colours.
  3. Choose three or four different colours of Prism Glimmer Mists.
  4. Spray liberally with the different colours how you wish.
  5. Allow the mist to drip down the sides or build up texture slowly spraying a new colour each time the one below has dried.
  6. Play around with using sponges, brushes and paper towels to apply different strokes and effects
  7. Watch as glittering effects build up to create a spooky surface pattern
  8. Add googly eyes as you wish to bring your pumpkin to life!

Paper Pumpkins

How to Make:

  1. Choose a circular die of your choice; it can be any size you want.
  2. Cut 7 circles out of white Ink Me! Cardstock
  3. Paint each circle using either Prism Ink Pads or Prism Watercolour Pencils or Prism Brush Markers - create a textural, watercolour effect by building up layers in orange, reds and greens!
  4. Once dry, fold each circle in half, inwards so the painted sides face each other once folded. You should now have 7 semi-circles.
  5. Stick each semi-circle on top of each other so you have a stack of semi circles - make sure they all line up along the curve.
  6. Once dry, let the stack pop out and stick the final two white semi circles together to create the pumpkin shape.
  7. Die cut out various different leaves from Green cardstock and using a little glue, stick these to the top of the pumpkins. Fold these out a little to look realistic.

Tiny Pumpkin Pompoms

How to Make:

  1. Using a small pompom maker and Crafty Knit orange wool, create as many small pompoms as you wish.
  2. Trim the edges of the pompoms to create a smooth, rounded shape.
  3. Die-cut various leaves from green cardstock and use a little glue to stick these to the top of the pumpkins.
