The very first tale of Cinderella was written in China around 850 AD - and over 700 versions of the story have been recorded from around the world. In the first version of the story, Cinderella's slipper is made of gold, not glass!

The name Maleficent comes from the latin word "maleficenta" which means "evil-doing".

French writer Marie-Catherine d’Aulnoy popularised the term with her “Les Contes des Fées” (fairy tales) in 1697.
