     Cross Stitching

What is it?

Cross stitching is one of the many different forms of sewing. This type of embroidery is formed of ‘X’ shaped stitches in a tiled/grid like fashion to gradually form intricate and fun images.

What materials are needed?

  1. Aida fabric (this is the best fabric to use).
  2. Thread.
  3. Scissors.
  4. Embroidery Hoop (keeps the fabric taught and flat).
  5. Pattern.
  6. Needle and Needle Minders (somewhere safe to put your needle aside).

Crocheting

What is it?

Crocheting is a way to make various textile items such as blankets, clothes and toys. By using a crochet hook, it enables you to loop and interlock yarn or any other type of thread and strand materials.

What materials are needed?

  1. Crochet hook.
  2. Yarn (this can vary depending on the project you choose).
  3. Scissors.
  4. Stitch Markers (so you can keep track of your stitches).
  5. Tape measure or ruler.
  6. Darning needle (a larger size needle to thread in the stray ends of a finished project).

              Colouring

What is it?

Colouring is the process of changing the colour of something by either painting, dyeing or shading it in.

What materials are needed?

The materials needed for this craft can vary greatly depending on which form of colouring you want to achieve.

  1. Paper, cardstock or fabric of your choice.
  2. Your choice of coloured pens and/or pencils.
  3. Your choice of coloured paints or dyes.

Stamping

What is it?

Stamping is a craft where a material (usually rubber) has an image or a pattern moulded, carved or engraved onto the surface, and is covered in ink pigment/dye. This pattern can then be stamped onto materials and fabrics, creating amazing designs.

What materials are needed?

  1. A stamp of your choice.
  2. Ink/Pigment dye.
  3. Paper, cardstock or fabric of your choice.

      Die-cutting

What is it?

Die-cutting is a method of using a metal instrument/shape to cut out shapes from card, paper and fabrics. The underside of the die shapes have sharp edges so when pressure is applied (usually from a tabletop die cutting machine), they can effectively cut out shapes from materials.

What materials are needed?

  1. Die shape.
  2. Pokey tool/Craft pick (used to delicately pick up the cut die pieces).
  3. Paper or cardstock.
  4. Die-cutting machine (manual or automatic).
  5. Plate/Cutting pads (allows even distribution of pressure).
